Freestanding Bathtubs | Unqiue Styling for Your Bathroom

Freestanding BathtubsI’m tried of the same old bathtubs and sinks. I want something different for my bathroom remodel. What do you suggest?

Freestanding BathtubsHow about something old that’s new again? Freestanding bathtubs are unique, stunning and guaranteed to be the wow factor in your new bathroom.

The freestanding bathtubs made their appearance thousands of years ago. Not everyone was able to take baths every day as we’re used to now. In ancient Greece and Rome, there were public bath houses, but personal tubs in wealthy homes. The Japanese took to the outdoors to wash off in large, tall, and deep metal tubs. Picture a short shower. However, for years, it was the wealthy who smelled better than the rest of the population. Many people turned to perfume and steam baths to “get clean”. That continued until the late 1800′s in the United States. However, that was a time of change. A public health act was passed that created a plumbing code and in 1883, the Kohler Company began producing cast-iron bathtubs. But, those first models for sale looked more like horse troughs.

What’s Old is New Again with Freestanding Bathtubs

Fast forward to modern times and you have your choices of freestanding bathtubs to soak the day’s stress away and show some flair in your bathroom. Don’t worry, there are still the classic clawfoots. Now, though, there are the slipper tubs, the double slipper, the double ended, and the pedestal tub. How do you choose?

The slipper tub has one end raised and sloped to create a more comfortable lounging position. The double slipper has both ends raised and sloped. The double ended has two rounded ends. The pedestal? You guessed it. It sits on a pedestal. So how about a shape.. round, rectangle, oval? The tub’s material? If you need a lighter model, turn to acrylic. There are also copper, stone, stainless steel, and porcelain styles, just to name a few. What about color? These are a lot of choices, there, too. Now, however, it’s your decision. These days, the stores (including online store)  not only have the freestanding bathtub you’ll love, but what will fit your bathroom decor, too.

Freestanding bathtubs don’t have to break the bank either. There are basic, smaller models that can cost you under a thousand dollars. Get bigger in size and change the style and you should count on paying several thousand dollars. You’ll also need to choose if you want to have the faucet attached to the tub or if it should be another freestanding structure coming up from the floor next to the tub.

Whatever your decision, any homeowner would be happy with the uniqueness and comfort of freestanding tubs.
