I miss the hand held shower heads in my last house. They came with the house, so I’m not sure what to look for. Are they hard to install?
Ooo, I love hand held shower heads, too. It’s like a massage every time I take a shower. And now, they install easily in just minute. With so many to choose from, the hardest part is deciding which one to buy.
If you want to treat yourself to a little luxury, but don’t want to spend a lot of money, hand held shower heads are the way to to it. You can direct water where you want it and usually with a number of different spray options, whether that’s a light misting or a pulsating flow of water on your sore muscle. In the U.S., shower heads must flow at less than 2.5 gallon of water a minute per a Department of Energy ruling, but in a lot of shower heads it can feel like a lot more just by adjusting the flow.
Luckily, hand held shower heads are very affordable and can usually be found online for $30 give or take. They’re also easy to install. They generally attach to the existing shower pipe. They also come with a long, flexible hose so you can use it standing up in the shower or even sitting in bathtub.
There are lots of hand held shower heads to choose from. So much as a matter of fact, that you could spend hours just reading about different brands and models. I’ve tried to take some of the legwork out of it for you and gathered information on three of the most popular model sold at Amazon. This is the most reviewed and recommended hand held shower heads on Amazon and for good reason — it’s two shower heads in one. One part of it is a horseshoe-shaped permanent shower head. the second is the removable hand held shower head. Reviewers love that the shower head is adjustable its easy, straight forward installation (some say it’s took just a matter of minutes). Of course, the majority of them rave of about the multiple spray options. The unit is made of plastic, but most folks say that’s isn’t a problem. Some did have problems with leaking, but one industrious review found the solution: tightening the three way diverter where it attaches to the shower head.

Hand Held Shower Heads #2: Waterpik TRS 559
This hand held shower head looks sharp in it’s contemporary styling and brushed nickle finish, which makes it different from most. It offers five spray settings, including a fast massaging pulse. The majority of reviewers give it high praise for it’s elegant looks and long cord. Many who try it once, end up buying additional Waterpiks for their other bathrooms or those of family members. Were their negative reviews? Of course, and for a variety of reason. The main complaint seems to be low water flow. It could be that those units were just lemons because over 71% of reviewers gave it a 4 or 5 star rating. Most say great things about this shower head from “Love this hand held shower” to “Very nice!” Even the mid-range reviews say “It does its job.”

Hand Held Shower Heads #3: Delta 75700
Of the three hand held shower heads, this Delta unit offers the most spray options with seven selections, which is great for everything from shampooing to massaging those aching muscles after a hard workout. With its ergonomic handle it also feels comfortable in your hand. Reviewers like it’s feel in their hand and it’s light weight. The majority reviews give it kudos for it’s adjustable settings, long hose and good price. Many say it’s an “Excellent shower head for an excellent price.” The biggest complaints are that the units links after some time, but truthfully that was just a handful of complaints. A few had issues with water pressure, but that may not be a fixable issue if all of these shower hoses have to comply with low-water pressure restrictions from the government. Overall, 80% of reviewers gave this Delta unit 4 and 5 start ratings.
